Assessing your child's development

Every child is assigned a key worker who will help in your child's development, by encouraging them in their learning in the following areas: personal, social, emotional, communication and language, physical, literacy, mathematics, expressive arts and design and understanding the world.

For all children who attend our nursery, parents have access to a developmental file on their child's progress. This enables staff and parents to go through areas where their child has developed as well as outlining areas for future improvement.

Encouraging your child to develop to their full potential

Our staff at Southfield Day Nursery believe that an important part of a child's mental and physical development is having the chance to interact with other children their own age. Not all the children who visit us have parents who work, there are some who just want their child to experience playing with others in a friendly and safe environment.

Bringing your child to our nursery will introduce them to simple acts of sharing and taking turns. We also welcome children up to 8 years old, who usually come to us for after school activities.

Early Years Foundation Stage

We have three rooms designed for different age groups which are:
  • Baby and toddler group (0 to 2 years)
  • Toddlers group (2 to 3 years)
  • Preschool group (3 to 5 years)
As well as a qualified teacher, we have an early years professional in our team; all of our staff are trained to teach the curriculum for 0 to 8 year olds. All relevant information is shared with the different age groups to ensure there is a continuous flow in the care, development and learning process for every individual.

Interacting with children

We provide a very caring and friendly atmosphere where the children are actively learning to improve their knowledge and understanding of their surrounding environment.

Our use of storytelling, role play, music and song are all areas of play we use to promote good language and listening skills for the children.

We also take children out on educational visits within the local area to help develop their knowledge and understanding of the world as well as their social interactions.

We also encourage children from three upwards to follow simple programmes on a computer to help them understand and get used to new technology.

Open day

We hold an open day once a year for new parents, but welcome parents to arrange an appointment to visit us at any time if they so wish. To enrol your son or daughter, please download our registration form.
